May 17, 2022 @ 9:30 am - May 18, 2022 @ 4:30 pm

Improving Care for Aboriginal Patients (ICAP) Forum 2022

We are pleased to invite Aboriginal Health Liaison Officers (AHLOs) and Koori Mental Health Liaison Officers (KMHLOs) across Victoria to come together at the Improving Care for Aboriginal Patients (ICAP) Forum this May.

After a couple of years apart, it’ll be great to get together, debrief and unwind. The two days will focus on the health and wellbeing of our workforce, with a range of activities planned, including a site visit to the local hospital and a film screening.

We’ll hear from VACCHO CEO Jill Gallagher AO, representatives from the Department of Health, the team at Barwon Health, and inspirational speaker Dr Glen Harrison, a Wotjobaluk man from Western Victoria who works as a doctor and emergency specialist at Royal Melbourne Hospital and Epworth Private Hospital in Geelong.

Please register for this event here by Friday 29 April.

We will be in touch with further details on the agenda as the Forum approaches. Please ensure you have your manager’s approval to attend the Forum.

ABOUT THE FILM: DJÄKAMIRR – CARETAKER OF PREGNANCY AND BIRTH

For over 60,000 years Yolŋu childbirth happened on-country with skilled djäkamirr (midwifery caretakers) using ancestral wisdom and bush technologies to support women and babies.

DJÄKAMIRR is a privileged insight into the aspirations of remote First Nations communities to reclaim their birthing culture from the stronghold of Western medicine; and be part of the solutions to improve health. Filmed over a two year period on-country in Arnhem Land, the documentary is a rare invitation to experience Yolŋu women’s culture and hear their aspirations for maternity services.

Please confirm if you will be attending the film screening when filling out the registration field.
