Immunisation Practice in Primary Healthcare

Aboriginal Health Practitioners can now give Mob their vaccines. And this October and November, 70 practitioners can access fully funded immunisation training.

Immersive, in-person training

VACCHO and Benchmarque Group have worked together to create culturally safe immunisation training for Aboriginal Health Practitioners. It’s the first training of its kind – and will help increase Mob immunisation rates.

This workshop is:

  • Available for Victorian AHPRA-registered Aboriginal Health Practitioners
  • Undertaken over 5 consecutive days
  • Delivered face-to-face
  • Led by highly experienced trainers
  • Practical, hands-on and immersive.

Fully funded training for the first 70 participants

VACCHO and Benchmarque Group – with support from the Department of Health – are offering 70 Victorian AHPRA registered Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHP) the chance to enhance their immunisation skills – at no extra cost.

Registrations are open now for the following four courses.

Relevant skills, real impact

Just this year, government policy changed to allow Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHPs) to administer immunisations. It came after 15 years of staunch advocacy by ACCOs, VACCHO, Elders and Community members.

That means greater access to culturally safe immunisations for Mob. And less time spent travelling to hospital and other mainstream health services.

In this program, AHPs gain all the skills needed to prepare for and perform immunisations – expanding their scope of practice for Community.

Over five consecutive days, you’ll learn to:

  • Prepare for and perform an immunisation, including vaccinations
  • Determine immunisation needs
  • Source immunisation information in primary health care – and so much more.
