Communities Stand Blak, Loud, and Proud during “Epic” NAIDOC Week

Jul 17, 2024

VACCHO applauds Community and Allies for their enthusiasm, engagement and pride during 2024 NAIDOC Week celebrations.

This year’s festivities will be remembered fondly by all following a week of celebrations of 65,000 years of Aboriginal culture that honoured this year’s powerful themes Blak Loud and Proud and Keep the Fire Burning.

VACCHO CEO Dr. Jill Gallagher AO said the week was about:

“celebrating the unwavering strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors, Elders, families, and Communities.”

VACCHO was thrilled with the overwhelming success of the inaugural Sackville Street NAIDOC Week Street party.

The chilly Melbourne winter did not deter the many families, friends, and communities that gathered to enjoy food, cultural activities, music, art and inspiring speakers.

Highlights included an epic impromptu flashmob performance led by Aunty Jill and Nikki Foy, cultural dances, basket weaving, and a Welcome and Smoking courtesy of Uncle Colin Hunter Jr.

The Friday NAIDOC March proved to be a standout moment yet again with thousands coming out in force to ‘keep the fire burning’ as they joined the iconic march from VAHS on Nicholson Street all the way to Federation Square.

VACCHO pays tribute to the many people and organisations for their hard work and dedication in making NAIDOC Week 2024 an unforgettable week for Mob.
