VACCHO in collaboration with Wurru Wurru Health Unit (WWHU) has launched a groundbreaking online course aimed at empowering workers in the health and wellbeing sector with the knowledge and skills to provide culturally safe, responsive, and effective care to LGBTAQIASB+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (Rainbow Mob).
This Rainbow Mob Health training was co-developed to address an educational and knowledge gap identified by Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations in Victoria that support Rainbow Mob daily.
Driven by the needs of the Community Controlled sector, the training is centred around Rainbow Mob lived experiences and the latest research on LGBTQIASB+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from Victoria and nationally.
The training covers topics such as understanding intersectionality, identifying social and Cultural determinants of health, Rainbow Mob health priorities and understanding the requirements of delivering culturally safe care to Rainbow Mob.
VACCHO’s CEO Dr. Jill Gallagher AO says that the training will help improve the health and wellbeing of LGBTQIASB+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
“Those living in the intersecting spaces of both the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities and the LGBTQIASB+ communities are disproportionately marginalised and unsupported when accessing health services.”
“It is crucial that LGBTQIASB+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people receive culturally safe and responsive health care. Our Rainbow Mob Health training resource will help health care providers better support Rainbow Mob.”
“Ensuring culturally safe and holistic health care for Rainbow Mob is crucial to support vibrant, healthy, self-determining Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities.”
